Air Pollution Footprint Partnership

Ricardo’s Air Pollution Footprint Partnership Toolkit helps organisations measure and reduce air pollution. We designed and built the site that brings it to life.

Air pollution is one of the greatest environmental risks to human health, according to the World Health Organization. Ricardo, with over 60 years of air quality expertise, set out to create a free reporting tool that helps organisations estimate their air pollution emissions, explore reduction strategies, and share their progress.

The content and methodology were already strong, but Ricardo needed a website that would present the information clearly, encourage sign-ups, and reflect the ambition of the project.

What we did

Working closely with Ricardo’s air quality and ESG teams, Chicken designed and built the website for the Air Pollution Footprint Partnership Toolkit.

  • Design with real content: we worked directly from early draft content, shaping the site around real messages and goals.
  • Bite-sized structure: long technical documents were broken down into digestible sections, making it easier for users to skim and find key terms like Tier or Scope.
  • Sign-up focus: clear calls to action were built into the design, encouraging organisations to register and add their logo as a visible partner.
  • Rapid build: with a small budget and a busy in-house team, we kept the development lean. Using Drupal 10, we delivered a secure, professional site in a short timeframe.

The results

Within 24 hours of launch, the site had dozens of sign-ups from the WHO to local climate action groups. Feedback was positive, with Ricardo’s Digital Service Operations Manager saying:

“Seems you’ve really pulled out all the stops so just wanted to thank you for the effort and commitment – very much appreciated.”

The toolkit now has a home that supports its mission: making it easier for organisations to measure and reduce their air pollution emissions.

What’s next

Future development will include an interactive form to let organisations upload results and gain recognition for their efforts. This will strengthen the toolkit’s role as a hub for collaboration and shared learning in the journey towards cleaner air.
