Angie and the team at Southwark Council have been shortlisted for the AI Impact Awards 2026, in the AI for Local Government & Community Services category. The nominated project is the AI-powered PDF Importer, a tool we built together.

The problem it solves is unglamorous but real. Council teams were spending hours manually copying PDFs into their websites  content that often ended up inaccessible and hard to maintain. The importer uses an AI pipeline to turn static documents into clean, structured HTML in minutes. Less grind, better accessibility, time back for more meaningful work.

We're proud of what the collaboration produced. Southwark brought the problem, the workflows, and the willingness to iterate until it actually worked for their staff. We brought the build. That combination is what makes tools like this worth making.

It's also open source, available to any council in the LocalGov Drupal community to adopt and adapt. That's the bit we're most pleased about.

If you believe in practical, open AI that makes public services better, please vote for Southwark's entry at awards.digileaders.com.

Fingers crossed, Angie 🤞
